10 february 2022 One of the things I love about sea glass is the beauty that comes from its brokenness. Sharp shards polished with patience and the process of time. It’s an intuitive trusting. From what you throw into the healing of the water, there will be unimaginable rewards. Over the years, I’ve filled many a bowl with the bounty of these soothing, smooth stones. My time on Monhegan. My gifts from the sea. I carry them home in memory of all the ways I can be at home wherever I find myself. Still, sometimes home is hard. Especially this time of year. I’ve been housebound by weather, book bound by school. also Wegmans has been out of gummy bears for over a week I must also remember that January is my month of painful losses accrued over time, and it’s no wonder I feel them intensely: I lost a mother-in-law I stopped drinking I stopped being married I’m trying to reframe these situations not necessarily as those of loss but rather as release. To allow myself to trust in the healing of the water and let go. to get out of my own woundedness to dwell in possibility and to trust in the other side, of a life unimagined because there has always been an other side and a beauty that has come from brokenness This is a longwinded way of saying in pursuit of writing the perfect newsletter, I’ve spent a month not writing any newsletter. My quest for perfection is merely my paralysis, and it’s insane. if I remember the process of sea glass I can trust there is no perfect only practice that art is made in hindsight ~ and the healing is in the return. I’m going to do my best to be more gentle. To experiment with the form of what I publish. I’d love to know what speaks to you in what I share.
