10 january 2022 dear reader,
on my best days i get out of bed and greet the world with a cheerful hello!
“i wonder what adventures you might offer me today?” and then there are the days when i “sleep in” only to immediately regret how i wasted my entire day before i even got out of bed at 7:30 am am i the only one? one of my intentions for 2022 is to embrace the ridiculousness of my relationship with time to allow myself to be in time, rather than bound by time. to accept time’s limitations means to accept my limitations and to embrace the limitations of my human self as a gift my friend karen lent me anne lamott’s recent book, dusk night dawn and i was moved by this passage: The bad voice inside me cried, “What if, what if?” But the gentle voice of the mother said, “What is?” What is (is) food, nature, one another, what we have and what works. no, not everything is possible not everything can be cured but in accepting our human limitations we hold the space to heal here is what i have to remember: my life looks nothing like i planned (trust me, i’m a planner and i really REALLY tried) my life is better it’s better than anything i imagined it’s certainly better than the ways i managed what i thought was supposed to be my life has become my wildest dream. committing to something means waving good bye to something else. it’s uncomfortable and it’s freeing i wish the little voices inside my head could remember that and get okay with that reality: there will be days i read two books there will be days i eat 3 pounds of gummy bears
in 2022 i’m committing to begin my day with more wonder
to ask the question: does what i do enlarge or diminish me and do i wish to be accountable to my choice?
we always know, but it’s what do we do with that information
i’m sure i will fail many times, (probably before i even publish this newsletter) but it is in the knowing my life contains enough space to hold several narratives that i can allow myself to begin again. so can you we can’t become a different person, but we can become ourselves. what do you wish to nurture to allow to become your nature? what if what is i hope you can join me tonight as we explore these questions and more to gather (in grace) and write I hope to see you there. xosew ps the pears have nothing to do with anything other than my friend Jessie liked the image ~ and I appreciate all the ways she reminds me to just go with the flow
