26 October 2021 Dear Reader, If you’ve ever been in my home you already know like everything else, my relationship with books is creative, color coded and complicated. but do you see this my toppling tower? it’s not about the titles but rather the totality this is my addiction to the buying of books themselves ten books in the last 14 days alone. (oh dear) reader this is a problem I am in a book bind. my appetite to buy outweighs my ability to ingest and this (w)hole is not equaling the sum of its parts Recently I confessed my sin of consumption to a sympathetic friend, and was relieved to know I am not alone in this conundrum. We exchanged the titles of books bought but not opened, and laughed. She even expressed concern of what the physical weight might be doing to the structure of her home. paper tombstones I write from experience and with the best of intentions because I truly want to read every book I invite into my home. because I know the miracle of discovery: to find oneself reflected in story to return to a former iteration through the act of rereading reunited with handwritten notes in the margins love letters ephemeral blessings lessons learned Words carry me back in time and space to commune with my past to notice and become my spectacular now. Books are beloved friends: deep conversations I return to year after year So in this current short term crisis of book buying, shelves overflowing, I lean into the fact I am supporting the work and worth of each author that comes before me to honor the paper trail of my becoming and then to let the rest go… for I am always reading because there is always more to read tell me about your relationship with books what’s on your nightstand? and stay tuned I’m finalizing my 2022 workshops and retreat offerings, each their own embodied book group narrative threads from breath to pen thank you for reading and for the many ways you support my work.
